UPDATE: Lansing Mayor Andy Schor has reinstated the travel ban as a Winter Storm Warning has been issued for the area, in addition to anticipated dangerous temperatures and wind chills. It goes into effect at midnight on Wednesday January 30th.
Governor Whitmer has declared a State of Emergency for the State of Michigan ahead of several days with anticipated temps struggling to break the zero degree mark and winds the could approach 40 miles per hour. The combination could mean life-threatening wind chill values lower than 40 degrees below zero in some places of the state.
In Lansing, Wednesday and Thursday morning wind chill values are expected to be 27 to 33 degrees below zero.
On Monday, Lansing Mayor Andy Schor declared a State of Emergency, calling for a ban on all non-essential travel. On Tuesday morning the travel ban was lifted but other aspects of the declaration remain in place until the State of Emergency is cancelled. This includes parking restrictions in the city.
