Novi's First Policeman, Uncle of Shiawassee County Sheriff, Passes Away

He was Novi's first policeman.  Lamont BeGole, better known as "Lee," was honored at this time last year as the City of Novi celebrated its 50th anniversary, for his instrumental work in the development of both the city's police and fire departments.

As part of the city's celebration last year, a short video was produced that is packed full of fascinating historical facts, many of them delivered by BeGole himself, recorded at various points during his decades of service.

Lee Begole is the uncle of current Shiawassee County Sheriff Brian BeGole, whose father also served Shiawassee County as Judge in the 66th District Court -- a family of public servants; Lee passed away on Saturday February 29th at the age of 99 at Memorial Healthcare in Owosso.

Brian BeGole, who recently announced a campaign for reelection, honored his uncle in a Facebook post saying "He was a great man like so many from this generation."

Mark Latunski, a 50 year old Morrice resident, charged in connection with the death of 25 year old Swartz Creek resident, Kevin Bacon, recently deemed incompetent to stand trial on the charges lodged against him, has been ordered to undergo treatment at a facility recommended by the Center for Forensic Psychiatry.
