Days later, Lansing Ignite announced it has signed former USL and Sweden Midfielder, Christian Silva, as its second player for the inaugural season. Silva will also join Lansing Ignite pending league and federation approval.
Having most recently played for the Jacksonville Armada FC, Silva brings his experience to Lansing from the USL and Sweden. The 29-year-old played college soccer at the University of Tampa and University of South Florida before appearing in USL PDL side Ocala Stampede and USL Pro club VSI Tampa Bay FC. In 2014 Silva moved to the Swedish side Karlstad BK where he notched two goals in 12 matches.
“I am honored to continue my career with Lansing Ignite,” said Christian Silva. “After speaking with Coach Nate and Jeremy I knew right away that I had to become part of this organization as I was immediately drawn to the infectious passion and style of play that will come to define the Ignite. To be part of an organization from the very beginning is a massive honor and responsibility I am beyond excited to grab with both hands. Counting down the days to get out in front of The Assembly Line and the city of Lansing and leave it all out on the field for them.”
On Friday, former Lansing United and Valparaiso University Midfielder, Rafa Mentzingen, was revealed as Lansing Ignite's third player for the inaugural season. Mentzingen will join Lansing Ignite, founding member of the USL League One, pending league and federation approval.
Mentzingen is a recent graduate of NCAA Division I Valparaiso University where he shared the team lead with nine goals in 2017 and now ranks seventh in program history for goals in a single season. Prior to transferring to play with the Crusader’s he played for Bryan College. As a freshman in 2015 he scored 11 goals and added three assists for a total of 25 points. Outside of his collegiate career, Mentzingen played with Lansing United in 2017 where he scored nine goals in nine games.
“Being signed to play with Lansing Ignite means a lot to me and I am excited for the start of the season,” said Mentzingen. “I am looking forward to working with Coach Miller again and helping the team exceed our goals.”
