An event on Thursday February 28th kicks off Lansing Community College's participation 400 Years of African-American History, a law signed by President Trump earlier this year to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the arrival of Africans in the English colonies at Point Comfort, Virginia, in 1619, WILX-TV reports.

Lansing Mayor Andy Schor will be among those in attendance at the event that begins at 11:30am and runs until 1pm.
Along with live music and food, a portrait of Malcolm X commissioned for LCC will be unveiled at the event.
It happens in the Gannon Building's Michigan Room at LCC's downtown campus.
