UPDATE: The former Governor of Michigan who was named Interim President of Michigan State University following President Lou Anna Simon's resignation in the wake of the Larry Nassar scandal, has resigned after sharp criticism of a comment he made regarding Nassar survivors.  WLNS-TV reports Engler delivered an 11 page letter to the MSU Board of Trustees ahead of a special meeting that had been called by board members for Thursday morning, to discuss firing Engler, should he choose not to resign.  Thursday's meeting may yet reveal information about Engler's successor.

Engler has been viewed by many as the wrong choice to replace former MSU President Lou Anna Simon since the day he stepped into the role.

The MSU Board called a special meeting for Thursday morning, calling it a personnel matter.  The announcement came following an Engler comment that Larry Nassar survivors are "enjoying the spotlight."  The comment was immediately followed by a new wave of criticism, including calls by board and university staff for Engler to resign or be fired.
