Bath Township police officers are known best by the department's high social profile, propelled by frequent fun, sarcastic and creative tongue-in-cheek posts on the department's Facebook page. Sometimes those posts poke fun at officers of the neighboring East Lansing Police Department.
But this week, it's not fun and games for two Bath Township officers, who were arrested -- for real -- after starting a fight at a bar in Grand Rapids.
Officers Bryan Miller and Payton Warner were arrested early Wednesday morning after punching a bartender and kicking a customer at The Web, a bar in Grand Rapids, according to the bar's owner.
Deb Owen told WILX-TV that Miller threw the first punch after Owen's son, the bartender, cut the officer off.
Owen says the officers had been drinking at the bar without a problem, before leaving for another bar. But when they returned and were refused service, Miller became belligerent. When asked to leave the bar, that's when the fight started.
Bath Township Police Department is investigating. View surveillance video of the incident here.
